我是一个在楼房里长大的“新人”，却偏偏喜欢带着相机在上海的老弄堂里穿梭，记录过去的梦。我曾见证一片里弄从一个充满生活的空间被拆成空白，除了用相机去记录，我什么也做不了。这种感觉很无力，但正是这种无力感让我一次又一次回到弄堂里，于是拆迁成了连接过去与现在、私密与公开的桥梁，面临生活的变迁，人们变得乐于表达，于是我得以进入他们的空间，去了解那里的生活。

城市记忆的守望者
 
M50 现在已是上海有名的创意园区，并被列入了工业旅游示范点，但很少有人知道，它也曾面临拆迁的命运，却又在拆除工作开始前一刻，奇迹般地起死回生。这一切，和一个人的努力是分不开的，她就是韩妤齐。2006年底，韩妤齐发布了新书《从无声开始》，这位“城市记忆的守望者”由此走向了更广阔的空间。

艰·持
 
大画幅相机，这种随着技术的发展已经慢慢淡出摄影爱好者视线的古老机器，却被一位76岁高龄的老人视为毕生的梦想。郭嘉平，这位差一点成为国产大画幅相机奠基人的老人在艰难中维持着自己的梦想，他说，他只想为还热爱着大画幅相机的那少数人做一点事。

马良自述

视觉创作本身其实就是挑战语言表达的一种形式......

摄影本身注定了是沉默的，它自己并没有可能准确地去诉说些什么。在我看来，这正是所有视觉创作者的宿命；我们所能掌握的极其有限，照相机铺陈不了逻辑和线索，所记录的只能是一些语意不详的视觉符号；以及这些符号之间，不自觉地相互构建而成的某种若即若离的关系。

所幸的是，一切并非只是那么简单。正是由于视觉的不确定性，作者的主观意图必将会成为观者的迷宫。但是有迷宫就会有探索者，人类的好奇心和求知欲必然会驱使观者不自觉地走入这个迷宫，然后又自觉地开始寻找出路。于是有意思的结果发生了；在这探索和解读中，每个人都找到了属于自己的出口。并且由于观者的各自游走，这迷宫被穿凿成了条条坦途，晦涩最终变得如此丰富和透明。

我相信只要有诸位观者的存在和参与，一切自然都会变得明朗和清晰，所有支离破碎的东西都必将变得完整。

一个夏天的午后，发现了一本《上海寓言》的小摄影画册书的扉页上的文字是 这个城市本身是没有意义的。由于我们生活在这里，于是这个都市和我们的生活看上去都有了那么一点点意义。
      这本小册子里 一组我的马戏团，上海妈妈的好孩子，我们如此卑小却郁郁葱葱的活着，衣锦夜行，上海寓言，棉花糖上的日子，不可饶恕的孩子 这样的作品，似画似梦，更似阿莫多瓦电影《对她说》充满情感的力量，像老朋友一样。每一组作品的开始 都有一些诗句，生命只是一场寂寥的马戏，我们孤独地表演着自己。即使这只是一场寂寥的马戏，我们依然要活色生香地演下去。暗合海德格尔所说的人应当诗一样的栖息。这使我很好奇这位艺术家是如何思考，如何创作的？
    去年八月开始，盛夏的威海路，工作大约是从1点开始，到10点左右，非常辛苦，有次通宵，我困得几乎睡着，马良还在工作。

《在东方的艺术旅行》
 2007年2月10日Peter（英国）参加了Image Tunnel 起航--漂流瓶之旅，2007年6月16日欧阳家文（美国实习生）参加了 Image Tunnel 纪念中国电影 102周年的烛光露天电影“Touch Dream”，2008年6月14日色拉（英国实习生）参加了Image Tunnel的纪念中国电影102周年的，2009年卡尔（美国实习生）参加了Image Tunnel   1001 水晶般的记忆----海上绮梦。他们的到来给我们提供了外部视角，Image Tunnel 将回放他们在此留下的足迹，此外，卡尔与她的同学，以及 Image Tunnel 的志愿者们（2006-2009）用自己的经历通过话剧、默剧、舞蹈、多种乐器向我们展示了东方的艺术旅行，美好的梦想。
 
《梦想的漂流瓶》韩妤齐、毛广聚
Image Tunnel 漂流瓶有1001对，每一对瓶底是不同的数字，它代表着许多的梦想。
从2002年到2009年 Image Tunnel 人从2003年东方的塞纳左岸保护老建筑，2005年复兴非物质文化遗产，2007年支持中国独立影像，2009年1001  水晶般的记忆----海上绮梦，Image Tunnel 与其志同道合的人充满了梦想。

In 2009, Image Tunnel will hold a series of salons and independent movies entitled “A Dream of Shanghai”, which focus on the developments and changes in Shanghai. The photographers and directors invited will share with us their views and memory. In the meantime, “A Dream of Shanghai” is Image Tunnel’s summary of the past and plan for the future. It is the heart and soul of our series of works.

The views of a post-80s Photographer

As a fast developing city in China, Shanghai's old neighborhoods are disappearing at a horrible speed, along with them the lives and memories of people who have lived there for a century. Young and brought up in apartment though I am, I've witnessed that a block of old alleys was torn down within one year, which is quite sad for me even though I have never lived there. Facing the so-called "system", no one can do anything to stop it. This sense of vulnerability urges me to take photos of more similar places.

Documentary:
Guardian of City Memory
M50 now has become one of the most famous creative centers in Shanghai and a tourist interest of Shanghai’s early industry. However, few knows that it once faced the destiny of being pulling down altogether, but thanks to the efforts of Ms HAN Yuqi and her colleagues, it was saved just before the construction. At the end of year 2006, HAN published her new book < It all Started from Silence> and this “guardian of city memory” started to pay attention to more areas.

Perseverance
Wide field camera, a type of ancient camera which seems to be out-of-date for most people interested in photography, is the dream of a 76-year-old gentleman. Once upon a time, GUO Jiaping nearly became the father of China’s wide field camera but didn’t get the chance due to the limit of that era. Now, he keeps this dream despite of all the difficulties.

Visual art is a challenge to language expression.
Photography by itself is silent—it cannot tell anything specific. To me, this is our fate. What we own is quite limited. The camera cannot provide logic or clues, but some ambiguous symbols.
Fortunately, it’s not the end. It is this ambiguity of visual signs that makes a puzzle for the viewer. Where there’s a puzzle, there’re explorers. The curiosity of human beings will force them into the puzzle and to search the way out. That’s the most wonderful part. Everyone find his own exit during this search and interpretation, and thus the puzzle becomes rich and transparent.


A documentary about Maleonn     by LIU Xi

A summer afternoon, I found a photo album entitled “Shanghai Fable”. On the front page are some words: “The city itself is meaningless. The fact that we live here gives the city and our lives meaning.”
The photos in this album are like paintings and dreams, full of emotion. At the beginning of each series, some poem. “Life is a circus show without audience. We perform for ourselves lonely. Yet even if we don’t have audience, we have to live, to the abundance of life.” I was curious about the artist’s thoughts.
I began to shoot this documentary about Maleonn, the artist last August. It was hard. Once we worked overnight, I was so tired that I nearly fell asleep. But Maleonn was still working.

Artist’s Statement

Experimental Performance, Version Two, Shanghai
 
I’ve always been fascinated by anything that can inspire an almost unanimous reaction in a group of people who are outwardly very diverse but crucially linked by something so basic and often unnoticed. I consider this phenomenon to be like an invisible master key. I seek to exploit these ties and the eerie lack of difference by engaging with the audience and this performance.

I enjoy the concept of the audience being the performance. This is one of the reasons I do not like to explain what this performance consists of beforehand; I like my audience to be naive to the fact that not all acts consumed in leisure are safe. I want them to come not expecting anything because this act could be considered closer to sociology than art, and any prior explanation could taint the interaction. Though I’d suspect the previous isn’t true, I’d still like to maintain the same controls that I began with during the first version in Olympia, Washington. For in the future, I’d like to reperform this in another location, gaining more results to contrast to those previous. To do this, we all know that from a scientific standpoint one must keep the controls fixed. This introduction is already against the basic idea of the performance—preying on the unknown—for you are now the informed and the forewarned, but because this will be happening in a culture not of my own upbringing, I feel that it is respectful and fair to give atleast the obligatory artist’s statement, regardless how vague.

<Drifting Bottles with Dreams>    by HAN Yuqi,  MAO Guangju
Image Tunnel has 1001 pairs of drifting bottles, each with different numbers on the bottom. It is the symbol of dream.

From 2002 to 2009, volunteers of Image Tunnel protected M50 area, promoted China's independent films and photographers. In 2009, we have 1001 crystal memory.
